Feet

Canadian breed standard

"Rather small and oval in shape. Toes well arched and close with webbing. Pads thick and firm. Nails short but not excessively short. The front feet should turn out 10 degrees and the rear feet should turn neither in nor out. Dewclaws may be removed."

These are two examples of excellent front feet.

This is an excellent back foot.

This is a good foot from another angle.
These are two examples of flat feet with long nails - faulty. Flat feet tend to have thin pads and be weaker in general.

This is a cat foot - a fault. Cat feet are inflexible and usually go with straight pasterns.
This is a splayed foot - a fault - the toes are well arched but not close.
These two pictures show the rear feet 'rocked back', it is obviously a weak foot but the exact causes vary. It should be considered a fault.

These two pictures show a dog that has had the nails trimmed too short. This is a fault and should be mentioned to the handler.

This foot has excellent pads. A good foot should naturally have good pads (the padding gives the well knuckled appearance to the foot).
